Francis Schumacher


SIKESTON - Francis Xavier Schumacher III, 61, died June 19, 2001, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on the Western Kentucky Parkway near Beaver Dam, Ky.

Born Oct. 28, 1939, in Cape Girardeau, son of Alma Jean Morgan Schumacher of Sikeston and the late Francis Xavier Schumacher Jr., he graduated in 1957 from Sikeston High School and was a 1967 graduate of the University of Americas in Mexico City, Mexico. He was president of the Schumacher Agency Incorporated and had been in the school accident insurance business since starting with his father in 1973. Schumacher was past president of the Sikeston Chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the Air National Guard, Sikeston Little Theater, the Optimist Club and the Sikeston Elks Lodge. A poet, Schumacher published his first short story when he was 24 years old. He was also a bridge enthusiast and instructor in the community for many years.

On Dec. 2, 1972, he married Doris Wright in Sikeston. She preceded him in death on March 18, 1994.

On Aug. 24, 1996, in New York City, N.Y., he married Kathleen McDonald Snow who survives of the home.

Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include: one stepson, Robert Casey of Sikeston; one brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Annie Schumacher of Sikeston; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Donald Webb and Teresa and Steven Arndt of Sikeston; one sister, Anna Voelker of Sikeston; one brother-in-law, Dean Johnston of Warrenton, Va.; two stepgrandchildren; and 20 nieces, five nephews, 12 great-nieces and nine great-nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Alice Johnston; one brother-in-law, Charles Voelker; and one niece and one nephew.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel where the Legion of Mary will recite a Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Schumacher of St. Louis and the Rev. Normand Varone of Benton serving as concelebrants.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
